During the ride I realized I was starting to push this bike pretty hard. In the spring, I got the Lemond back on the road and did a 100k charity ride. I rode the Lemond through the winter putting a few hours a week on rollers and riding in the woods when the snow cooperated. I got the cycling bug back and invested in a proper mountain bike (a Gary Fisher 29er hard tail) and did about 100 miles on local single track. Over the course of 2010 I rode about 1,000 miles, most of them on the Lemond. And that Lemond was more than happy to put up with me grinding out the miles and getting back in shape. Today 50k doesn’t seem like much of a ride, but at the time it was a huge deal. Over the course of the year I trained for and completed a 50k charity ride. The day after I found out, I got the Lemond down out of the shed, strapped on my shoes, and went for a ride. Then last year my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer. It’s almost embarrassing to admit it, but it was hard to accept I was as out of shape as I was and riding anything longer than 10 miles was difficult. I maybe put 500 miles in the saddle over that time. Over the first 9 years I owned the Lemond, it didn’t get the attention it deserved. But it’s a fast, good handling bike that I could ride has hard as I wanted without worrying about riding past the limits of the bike. I was about 220lbs and fairly out of shape. It was certainly a great bike… maybe more than I needed. I’ve always been find of steel frame bikes and the Lemond struck me as one of the great, affordable steel frame bikes available at the time. I picked up a new Lemond Zurich with Ultegra components. In 2001, after 8 years living in AK with exactly zero miles ridden on the road, I moved to Virginia and finally got myself a road bike again. But before I get in to the Cannondale, I should give some context on the bike I was riding before. Let me know what you guys think.I’ve put about 750 miles on my Synapse and I figure it’s about time to write a review of the critter. So far I've only got a few items swapped out, but i have big plans for it in the future, like I really want to get the bike to 16.5 lbs w/ pedals and the 1st upgrade on my list that i want is a Cannondale Hollowgram SiSL2 Chainset. Anyways, please tell me what you guys think and please let me know if you have any tips or advice or recommendations for a newish cyclist like myself. Its brand new and ive only had it for about 2 weeks.I still need to get around to riding it more often, but I'm so scared that I'm going to break it or something which is most likely due to my lack of knowledge about carbon bikes.hopefully I'll get over that soon because the weathers getting better. After lurking around these forums for a few months i decided to pull the trigger on a new, carbon bike that ive been eyeing for awhile a 2014 Cannondale Synapse Carbon 3 Ultegra. I started off with a 2013 Fuji Roubaix 1.5C and I essentially stripped the bike down to its frame and re-built it with new bits and pieces over a period of 1 year. Thats what drew me and kept me into cycling was all the customizing and modifying you can do in this sport to make your bike your own.its been taking up the majority of my income since ive started, but I'm totally OK with that. I like modifying and creating new builds with different components just as much as or even more than actually riding the bike itself lol. I'm still relatively new to the sport, but I've been obsessed with it ever since I started. My names Daniel, I'm 25 and I've been cycling for a little over a year.
